Question...Which way does the axel key go in this is a 30 Phaeton. I don't want to pull the drum again, it was a real bear getting off.

All axle keys that I've seen have the tapers both facing the same way, and are installed with the taper towards (against) the axle. The longer, straight, side against to hub.

No 2 in photo, inboard and down. The key way in the axle has a curve that the taper fits into. Most keys I have seen just have the one taper, No 2.

A follow up on that axel key I have pictured is a new key never used straight from the vendor. It doesn't fit in the hub slot. If you use new keys check them out. Don't do what I did assume there perfect.
