I'm having trouble getting an oil tube and oil stick for a 1933 flathead engine. The provision in the oil pan is 1/8" pipe thread, when I talk to someone about what I need they end up sending me a tube and stick that are 1/4 pipe thread. The dip stick for a Model A is the correct size but is too short. Do I have something unusual? What do I need to ask for? Thanks

It sounds like you have a '34 pan and not a '33 given the threaded boss for a tube, which '33 V-8s did not have. The small diameter tube is unique to the '34 models and the larger diameter tube was used beginning in the '35 model year along with a wider, flat dipstick. Both the '33 and '34 dipsticks had a half-round cross section, just like those of the Model As and '32s.
The various '32-'35 dipsticks and tubes are illustrated in one of the Ford Service Bulletins, but I'm away from my car stuff and can't access it for you. Perhaps another barner can provide that later today. |

It is a pickup if that would make a difference. Actually, I have 2 of them and they both have 1/8" bosses. Any help appreciated!

I spoke (wrote) too soon in my first post and should have done a bit more homework beforehand. The additional of the tube and the redesigned dipstick (still with the half-round cross section) was a running change during the '33 model year, so a threaded boss on the pan would make it both a late '33 pan and a '34 pan, there being no other difference. Sorry for the confusion.
Whether or not the engine was in a passenger car or commercial vehicle chassis would make no difference in this particular instance (or in a big truck for that matter). I've seen the small tubes turn up from time to time so perhaps posting a wanted ad here on fordbarn.com and on the Early Ford V-8 Club website would produce the needed tube and dipstick for you. A specific source might be Michael at [email protected] as he deals in Ford parts of this vintage. |

I have 33 dipsticks. Different than 32 or 34.

The tube, 40-6754, for the 33-34 style dip stick is 3/8" O.D X 7.23" L. and the thread for the boss is not NPT but straight. I believe the 60HP engines used a very similar tube with a difference in length of 7.5" for the 60HP, 52-6754. Ask Fred if he has one. Freds re-production dip stick for 33-34 is correct.
