I've got several sectors. Some marked "g" some "f" which I suppose to be gemmer and ford. Are rebuild parts interchangeable?
Had a tough time getting the gemmer to work smoothly. And can't get full range out of it. Maybe 2 revolutions and I think it should maybe be closer to 4?
Any help appreciated. Ideas??

4 each way? From center? My 40ish column does Between 1.5 to 1.75 each way. I know it is not a 33-4. I'd could look at grandpa's 35 but his may have had a 40ish column swap too.

2 each way I think. Full range is about 4

some are 13 to 1 ratio, some (34)are 15 to 1. they are marked. the worm, stamped on the bottom end, the sector, on the side of the tooth. not interchangeable. these are designed as "high center" worm gears, which means the center is slightly higher to allow for wear. that means when you set the gear mesh you must start in the center. to do so, the key for the steering wheel is in line with the top of the box where the filler plug is, and then the sector is installed center tooth aiming at the center of the worm. if you have good gears which seem good to use, most likely when you try to take up the slack they will not seem so good any more because the contact is now at the very edge of the wear pattern which is not a smooth part anymore, its more like the edge of a crator! i've had some luck using valve lap compound to smooth this out a bit, roll the shaft back and forth with your palms and snug up the eccentric nut clockwise as you go. may get lucky, maybe not. also, when installing the sector, start with the slot on the eccentric pointing up, twards the shaft, and turn clockwise to adjust. the bottom eccentric screw driver thing starts out vertical, and is seldom needed. hope this helps, skip

Another thing,if you are doing this adjustment with the box in the car,make sure you loosen off the three bolts that hold the box to the chassis ,otherwise it's a pain to move the adjustments.
