Default 1929 Gas Tank

Are all gas tanks for the 1929 models the same? I have a 1929 Roadster PU with an issue with the steering column support. I have a gas tank from a 28/29 4 door sedan....wondering about fitment.

Thanks for any input.

I believe all 29 gas tanks are the same. Fordors have a sheetmetal cover over the gas gas tank, but the tank is the same as all other 29 gas tanks. Look at the link below.

1928 gas tanks had the choke rod support located further forward on the bottom of the tank, and they used a shorter choke rod with a tear drop handle. As Timothy said, recheck the date stamp to see if it might be a 29 rather than 28.

Thanks Timothy, Tom ans Steve....I'll have a look at the numbers again. If I can get a decent picture I'll include it.

Thanks for the help,
Gary

Have you removed the tank from your roadster yet? I can tell you my 29 Cabriolet's tank is one that fits under the cowl. That is, it is not part of the cowl. The sheet metal that is top wall of the tank and the sheet metal that makes up the cowl are not one in the same as in many other 29's.

It appears that the tank in my RPU is all one piece no cowl cover. With the metal cover removed from the used tank it appears identical to the cowl tank on my RPU except for the extra row of bolt holes to mount the cowl cover. The tank measures and appears the same as the RPU although it came out of a 4dr sedan. It does have the choke rod support in the same spot as my 1929. The numbers on it that I thought were date code are actually 2 2L 23.....

Any further help and thoughts is appreciated,
Gary
