I need to install a new firewall choke grommet.
I want to remove the coke Knob, How does that come off the end of the cable? |

If your four-cylinder choke cable is original, the knob attachment was intended to be permanent and even if you could remove it, there's the threaded escutcheon on the dash that would prevent you from passing it through the hole in the dash. In other words, the choke cable can only be removed by detaching it at the carburetor and pulling it rearward through the firewall and dash.

That tube is a vacuum line to operate the windshield wiper motor.

Was it originally designed to go in the choke firewall hole?

Frank: Instead of pulling everything apart, it's a lot easier to cut the new grommet on an angle and slip it over the cable/tube and insert into the f/wall. Put the slice on the bottom. FWIW

Good advice, 1931 flamingo, but the slice should be at the top otherwise the weight of the choke cable and vacuum tube will open up the slice.

I was thinking of doing that too..I was going to add some 3M black weatherstripping adhesive to the cut portion, to glue it back together. But you are right as long as it is along the top not problem there. My vacuum line has medical tape on it, I guess it was injured. My windshield wiper only moved a little. No problem, I was going to use rainx anyway and for that matter I was not really planning to drive in the rain. But I would still like to get the wipers working. |

A little dab of super glue will work and not be as messy

I've also done this with a cut and then super glue back together as 325w mentioned.
