Default Stumped on light rod

Attachment 255785 I have a 30-31 steering box with a repop 28-29steering wheel with the single keyway. When I try to install the 28-29 light rod it will not seat down on the wheel like it should. At this time I am not worried about the rod length.Just what to know why it is not fitting correctly.Any ideas?

You need the 28-29 style rod on the early style wheel. It is cup shaped to clear the wheel nut. On the later wheels, the nut is recessed, and that is why the rod you have is flat on the underside.

No, the 29 horn button is bright metal (nickel plate).

I believe that your rod is to long if you measure from the back side of the switch to where the retainer clip goes I would guess that it measure 45&3/4" you need a rod that measures 45" even again from the back side of the light switch to where the grove for the retainer clip please let us know how this works out.
