im replacing my water pump and the new shaft is too long. so do i just grind it down on a grinder? shoud there be any slack in shaft while i have it out and in my hand. thanks john

Yes just grind it down. The end play should be .006-.010.

Minerva had a MYSTERIOUS squeeking, until I discovered the shaft was a wee bit too long, where it hits the boss in the head. Bill W.
