1929 engine.
What Recommendations do you have for a Pilot bearing and Throwout bearing using a V8 clutch. I read some old threads and some of the bearings came form NAPA? |

Both bearings themselves are the same for A or V8. From memory, you will have to use the V8 T.O. collar.

If you come across a throwout bearing marked "Aetna" toss it in the trash can.

I just took out my TO bearing and it is stamped CB1087.
Does that ring a bell with anyone. Should I replace it with the same? |

SeverAl years ago Brattons and now probably others carried Federal Mogul throwout bearings made in Mexico. I have 23,000 miles on one in my Tudor.

Mitch, I haven't seen my V8 clutch yet. What do I use if the fingers are held by E-clips?

Mitch is right about the E clips. They will come off. At an intersection. Been there, done that. Get the PP that secures the fingers with a cotter pin. Ft Wayne clutch has them, others might, I dont know. Ask the supplier. You have to look up inside at the pivot point to see it.
I continued to use the Model A TO bearing a collar when I put in the V8 PP. |

I have used the standard model A throwout bearing and collar with no problem.
For a pilot bearing, I prefer a bronze bushing. The original bearing was not sealed or shielded, and soon filled up with clutch lining dust and then seized, wearing out the input shaft nose. Replacement pilot bearing are sealed, but the seal makes them so stiff that the nose of the input shaft will likely spin in the bearing, causing more damage. Ford used bushings on newer cars, and if they are ok for a 427 engine, they are fine for a model A. |

About ten years ago the Aetna throwout bearings developed a problem in premature failure. No doubt it has been solved but I would avoid that brand bearing because old stock may still be in some suppliers bins.
