AR is the common term for early 1928 model A's. It is really not the correct name, but many people use it to identify early 28 (before mid 28)

It's my understanding AR was used to designate ford replacement parts that replaced some parts on the early models that were made differently after the early production vehicles, A Replacement.

"A" means it's the first design of that part, and "R" means it must be held for REPAIRS as the changed part won't work as a replacement. You can also have a BR or CR part. It just depends on how many small changes were made.
As mentioned, the common thought is Model A's without the separate parking brake (introduced in mid 1928) are referred to as "AR". The later 1928 wheels aren't going to fit right on the early 1928's due to the wheel hub difference in depth. A-1015-AR.............first half 1928 21" Wheel A-1015-BR.............Mid 1928-1929 21" wheel A-1015-D...............1930-1931 19" wheel "C" style must have been a design that didn't make it to production? ![]() |

The E28 cars had so many AR parts as compared to the same model later '28 they became known as AR cars. There is a move on to re-term the cars E28 instead of AR as there are AR parts in every year.

Yes, let's do it right when we refer to the early '28s. They are E28 cars. Jim Langley
