I just purchased a rebuilt Zenith Carb and I put it on my Model A. When I opened the fuel valve at first it did not leak. Then the second time I opened the fuel cutoff valve(in line of fuel line) it started leaking out the air intake opening pretty bad. After cutting off line I tapped on the bowl and it stopped but now it is doing it again. The motor fired but did not start. Any ideas. I will send it back if I must. What causes fuel to come out this intake. Thanks Joe B.

Sounds like either the float is sticking, or the float valve. Pull it apart and see what happens when you push (lightly) on the float.

Do you have the small stand up filter in the tank valve? That's the best first line of defense against getting junk downstream, and maybe into the needle and seat.
If you have a cast iron sediment bulb, have you sandblasted the inside of it? Most of them are full of rust. |

Is it possible the float is set incorrectly so that it is letting too much fuel before shutting off?

It sure sounds like your needle valve is not seating. That's the first place I would start.

"The motor fired but did not start" You mentioned this. It would seem like there is something else wrong with the carb other than the float or valve. I think I would send it back and not take apart. (Do this if you have clean fuel like mentioned above)

If you take it apart you will void any warranty on the item, call the vendor and let them know what's going on.
If you crack into it, that's it, it's your problem now.
