I'm going to start working on the interior of my 1940 sedan delivery. What have you used to make all the large interior panels? I have both large side pieces as patterns, but that material is very thick and heavy, and is probably not available anymore (or is it?). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm interested as well to see the responses as we have a 35 sedan deliver that we can use the interior panels as well.

On my 32 delivery the interior panels were 1/8 tempered Masonite screwed to the wood.

Last time I checked LB did not have patterns and has very little info on sedan deliveries. We ordered door panels from them for an SD and had to let them know the door was the same as a coupe. There is not a lot of info out there on them as far as interior trim.

Did you paint the Masonite, or leave it its dark brown color?

The original interior panels in my sedan delivery are light grey. I have several factory photos showing the interior of a SD: in one photo the side panels look dark, probably black; in the couple of other photos, the panels are light in color, probably the light grey that I have.

Yes. I used Celtex (PVC foam board). It comes in a 4x8 sheet. Waterproof. Easy to cut with a utility knife or drill with spade bits. Around $33 a sheet.

Ford painted them. I covered mine with leather. When Kemps did a couple of other delivery conversions he coated them with tongue oil.

A little off subject type of vehicle but I am looking for a close up of the bottom of a 1940 ford coupe door panel (with uphostery if possible) I ordered from LeBaron Bonney the precut heavy cardboard panels for mt 1940 Standard coupe and it appears that there is over 1" of metal showing at the bottom of the door. I took a photo but it did not come out well but if someone with a complete '40 could take a photo it would help me determine how much of the door metal should show. I am going to go with .177 thick ABS and put my uphostery on that material.

There will be metal showing at the bottom of the door. With the upholstery on the panel you will see approximately 1/2".

I have a 34 sedan delivery and I believe I just went to Home Depot and found 1/8” smooth birch or poplar plywood. It looks great and can be painted any color you want. So far I left mine wood color and plan to just put some clear polyurethane on it. Luckily I had my old masoninte for the patterns.
