Does anyone know where I can buy a rear window shade for my 28 coupe? I see the mounting brackets listed in parts catalogs, but not the actual shade. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried La Baron Bonnie? Snyders and Brattons?

Rusty,

I checked Bratton's and Bert's, but couldn't find the shade itself, only the 2 mounting brackets. However, I just checked Snyder's and they carry the actual shade. Now, has anyone purchased a shade and how is the quality? Also, does anyone know how authentic the Snyder's shade is?
Thanks Rusty Nelson |

I had some original brackets and needed a shade for my 30 Coupe. I ordered the shade from Lebaron Bonney. I was completely satisfied with the material. I chose a tassel and it looks just like the original. It also included the cords for each side and finished tacks for securing the cords at the bottom.

I suspect the shade from Lebaron Bonney will be closer to original that the one from Snyder, as Snyder uses Cartoochi, and their stuff is not as good.

Pete/MA,
You didn't mention the quality of the shade you bought from Snyder's. How did it look? 2manycars' post above yours was a little suspicious of the Snyder's shades. Rusty Nelson |

Rusty,
I found an original roller and brackets from Bert's. I then sent the brackets out for nickel plating and cleaned up the roller. Being an original it is somewhat finicky but it worked at least to get me through fine point judging. I purchased the actual shade/tassel from LB. The quality was good. I was never able to track down original shade material to compare to the LB reproduction one I purchased. As far as the placement of the brackets - before I attached the shade material I held the roller with brackets in place, moving it back and forth to center the roller. I guessed at the exact vertical height looking at shades in some of the ford books, show cars, etc. Hope this helps - Hunter |

Snyder's has them, little over 21.00 for shade little over 10.00 for brackets.

Hunter,
Thanks for the response. If it wouldn't be to much trouble, could you take a picture of the shade and mounting brackets in your coupe and post it here? It would be nice to see where you mounted the shade and maybe other people might like to see it also. Rusty Nelson |

It looked fine.
I had nothing on my truck, and I haven't seen many originals so nothing to compare it to. I bought it purely for night driving (house of mirrors). Not going for points.......Pete |

Pete,
Thanks for the update. Don, I suspected the shades were not quite correct, as most repro part tend not to be. If I were to use a repro shade that is not quite correct, do you know if the length of the repro shades are the same as originals? If they are, I could always just replace the shade part, not the end brackets, if I found an original shade or parts there of and just swap out the shade itself. Thanks for the help. Rusty Nelson |
