In one photo there in the background looks like a small town. Would it be Rapelje? North from Billings and east of Columbus in Stillwater Valley, Stillwater County?

No, where we were you could only see occasional ranch buildings off in the distance.

There's something about Montana weather and climate that rusts the surfaces but there wasn't much actual rustout on many of the cars. At least, not by wet Oregon standards.

Looks like North Central Montana. The place where Chief Joseph surrendered. Shelby?

Hardly any humidity, very dry cold and very dangerous if one is not use to dry cold. Could be 100 outside, jump in a cattle trough and you were cool again.

Ray, here is the big question. How much followed you home?

Ray,
That looks like a 1931 68C in the third photo, did that follow you home?

The only thing we bought was a Model A compressor setup. Everything was pretty much picked over. The only small things left on the 68c were the roof supports at the door, and one of those was broken. Still, it was fun to wander through and explore.

Good guess. Between Shelby and Great Falls, but I am not at liberty to disclose the owner's name or location. Sorry guys!

I have a buddy who sells antique vehicles that he finds at Desert Classics in Butte, MT. Now, I cannot endorse this business, as I have not done any business with them, but if you like to look at Montana rust, there are some nice photos on their site. http://www.desertclassics.com/

Their prices seem healthy but as you know, body work is the most costly and makes the biggest difference in the finished product. So I like to start with something that is substantial and representative of the eventual final product.

Beautiful pictures and they would be ideal for posters, paintings and puzzles.

Bob, I have enough pix from this trip to make a calendar, but I would do it as a PDF, and let people download it free and print it themselves. I printed a calendar 14 years ago that I thought was a sure-fire winner to a select targeted market segment, and lost about $10,000. There are too many free calendars and electronic options out there now to make a printed calender profitable.

Love it! That's my kind of country out there. My model A came from just north of Great Falls also. Both sides of my family farmed in northern Montana about 60 miles east of Shelby. The dry climate does preserve things quite well. I remember riding around with my grandfather always on the lookout for old Model A's when we were driving around the countryside.

The roadster in the foreground of one photo is a '26-27 Model T. Too bad it's so rusted.
