is it very reliable to find the TDC using the timing pin on a Aluminum timing gear?

If it was installed correctly it ought to be fine....however, on the aluminium gear that I bought the "dimple" was pretty small, I should have drilled it a little to make it easier to find....
Verify TDC visually by taking the #1 spark plug out and if the engine is timed look at the position of the rotor, ought to be pointing at about 5 O'clock or the #1 contact on the distributor housing...

I always drill the indent in the timing gear a little deeper, in fiber or aluminum timing gears.

I bought one of those aftermarket timing indicators for the front pulley but haven't installed it yet....
