Does anyone know it the trans on a 47 pu, open drive shaft , can be removed without taking the engine out; is there enough room? Looks like it would be close.

yes you can, but be aware that it will come up thru the floor board to come out. a little hard to hold on to, remove shift handle, use a chain and a piece of heater hose 3/4", attach this to screws holding the top shift cover on the trans, this makes a really good handle
