Got a new camera and I'm totally baffled with all the options, so took a few random shots as the sun was going down

I tried three different settings on the camera, STANDARD,COLOUR and SEPIA.....I think the car presents well in the sepia mode.

Love that old time photo look. With that camera We can all see what we would have looked like in the in 1930. I have to get one! |

tiger.1000 ...........................
From your photos, you look like you have a pretty good eye, for using your camera. Just keep tinkering and you will, slowly, pick up new tricks. Read the manual and go out and play with it. MIKE ![]() |

Tiger,
Your pictures turned out great. It looks like you got a good camera. An interesting bit of trivia is that the instruction manual for your camera has 314 pages and the instruction manual for the Model A Ford has 52 pages. It is good to know that these manuals are available online from the manufacturer’s web site for viewing and printing at no cost. I wonder if after you have taken the picture in Sepia if you can go back with post processing software and change it to a color picture? If the answer is “no” I think I would use post processing software to change my color pictures to Sepia (almost all of the post processing software can do this). Since you say you are new to the camera (and maybe photography in general) I have a few tips that might be useful. If people have been playing with the camera over the two years you have had it set everything back to the factory default settings. There should be a one step way to do this within one of the menus on the camera. Set the camera to the automatic mode until you get used to using it and want to experiment. Set the time, date and resolution. The time and date may not seem important now but you will be amazed at how fast the pictures accumulate and most storage systems sort by date as the default. Next set the resolution to the highest possible and leave it there unless you have a good reason to change it. Since it really is not necessary to change these settings again have someone help you set them the first time if necessary. Next take a blank sheet of paper and write “REWARD” followed by your contact information. Photograph this piece of paper. Try to make this the first image on each camera card so it will be the first thing that shows when someone looks at the photos on the card. An honest person will return everything and refuse the reward but just in case I even add that there is a separate reward for the camera card and the photographic equipment that way a dishonest person will be able to collect the reward on the camera card (which he can claim he found laying in the street) while keeping the camera. Good luck and sorry if my ramblings are a little off topic for an automotive forum. Charlie Stephens |

Charlie....I have had a camera since I was ten. The first, a Kodak Brownie 127. The second a Pentax Zoom-70, followed by a Ricoh GR 10...all of which took rolls of film.
I had reasonable results from these. My first digital camera was a Panasonic what-ever-it-was called? Then another Panasonic and now the current version, which of course is now approaching obsolete. Battery life between charges on my current model is phenomenal but the downside is that the instruction manual seems to be longer than Tolstoy's "War and Peace". Usually I keep the setting on "A" for automatic and say a prayer. Sometimes I'm lucky but most times I'm not. As you say, it's a case of if you don't succeed, try and try and try and try and try again.....ad infinitum |
