What is the best installation method and tool to install freeze plugs into the block? use sealant? steel vs brass? convex or concave out?

I use Brass ones,steel rusts out.Some folks like the Nickel thing. Use a little rtv sealant and seat them using a socket just slightly smaller than freeze plug.Then use a ball pean hammer and tap it in center to expand the plug.

Jack is right. Don't use steel. Yes, do use sealant. I used Permatex #2, but not enough, so I had to do one over. Installation is done with a drift and a hammer. Here's what I did: http://dauntlessgeezer.com/DG87.html.

We call them freeze plugs but they are actually casting holes. They do not protect the block from freezing.
