The cost of shipping my steel drums and hubs to and from one of our trusted suppliers is pretty steep, about $120.
What type of equipment would I need to have to install my hubs on new cast drums? I understand I'd have to have the drums trued up afterward. |

The stud setting tool , a cutter to cut the old swedge so the hub Isn't damaged
A press that can go over 25 tons, some nuts and washers to hold the studs in place till set |

$120 to ship vs the cost of the tools, equipment, and time. I don't plan on doing drums ever again on my car, so I paid somebody who is setup to do it.

It is also good to have a good support under the whole hub, not just under the stud being swedged.
The person doing the swedging may also do the truing and check the hubs for run out. |

We decided to see if we could successfully remove and swedge cast iron drums on our hubs. Removal was easy carefully using a hole saw. One of our members had a tool made and we borrowed a 50 ton press. The gauge was at 25 tons when we were done and it turned out to be surprisingly easy to complete the job. There is a short video on our website www.olddominionmodela.org showing our club president swedging a hub.

Unless you already have the new drums you will have to pay shipping one way anyway, so figure you're trying to save about $60. Usually there is a club member or brake shop not too far away that can swage the new drums to your hubs.
