On e-pay, a used, beaded Edelbrock 257 intake for $900. I have a NOS one for $400, and a perfect used one for $350. No bites. Also a pair of scruffy looking y-block Edelbrock valve covers for $800. I have 2 pair of them In PERFECT condition, as new for $900 a pair. Again, no bites. I don't get it.

Who does. My sales on E-bay have been real slow since last summer. Have mainly gone to bu it now selling and haggle down to somewhere close to 80% of asking price. Unfortunately many use the Make an Offer option as a chance to insult you. Rod

I have no idea what the current prices are for the items mentioned above, but I would never pay (and it would be hard to justify) 900 bucks for a set of valve covers, nos or not, just because they say Edelbrock and were made in the 50's. And I run two Y Blocks both in 50's cars..
Everything will sell if the price is right. Just my 2 cents.

When are people going to wise up and start looking at better alternatives to e-pay, like webstore. No advertising fees and no selling fees there unless they changed their policies in the last few years

Craigslist sucks for selling. Too many scammers and with not much demand for parts in sparsely populated areas I would do just as well selling stuff writing it in the snow in the winter time. I avoid facebook at all costs. AACA has too small of actual people looking for stuff and who has the time to make accounts on every niche of car out there and go to all of the websites, remember passwords for each etc.? My parts inventory encompasses everything from Nash to Chevy and Ford from the 20's to the 80's. Rod

I just checked out webstore and the vintage parts section is clogged with listing for art prints. Is there a way to exclude certain items from the search like you can on fleecebay?

Well then, how about this, on e-pay a 57 Mercury M335 intake manifold for $3500. A pretty rare piece. I have two of them for sale forever it seems, at $1000 each. Again, no bites. Again I don't get it.

Clearly $1000 is better than $3500, but when you consider how few '58 Merc's are around in restorable condition I don't doubt you are having a hard time finding buyers. When I have a "no sale" I question my price and I ask myself if I want to start a museum or sell things. Then I lower my price.

Then you look at what the last few have sold for and ask yourself why you should take it in the ass and take less than the last few. I don't mind making a good deal but refuse to give it away as it wasn't free to begin with and the time packaging etc is worth something also. If you have free time and no bills that need paid, the take $1 for every $20+ item just for entertainment. Rod

When you're on epay click on 'Advanced' search in the upper right corner and enter the the item you're interested in & check the 'sold listings' box to see what they actually sold for. . Last edited by dmsfrr; 08-05-2015 at 03:54 PM. |

I've had an eBay account since '98. The first few years was gangbusters with selling parts, I made a ton of $$$ selling some NOS stuff. The listing rates were reasonable and so was shipping. But as eBay got more popular it seemed like greed took over. Listing prices went up. And so did shipping. And of course so did the scammers & liars, I got burned only once but that was enough. I haven't sold anything on there for maybe 8 or more years and haven't bought very much on it lately. Anymore it's almost a last resort, only if I can't find it on CL FaceBook, at a swap or thru word of mouth.
CL is good but yes only if you're in a fairly populated area but again, ya gotta be careful. Good thing about it and of course the local swap meets is that you can do 'face time' with the seller, and can inspect the actual item before making a decision whether or not to purchase. The world is a-changing. . . ![]() |

I guess I live in a vacuum, I have been on eBay since '97, both as a seller and a buyer, over 400 items. I have been on craigslist for over five years as a buyer and a seller, sold five cars plus a bunch of parts on CL last year.
I have had a few kooks on Ebay and CL, however, not enough to cause me to quit either site. I'm very careful about the content of my item (s) descriptions. On eBay I do not sell/buy outside of their rules. On CL I always list my phone number in a corrupted manner, numbers and written, therefore the respondent can't just scan it. I view the fees that eBay/PayPal charges as "the cost of doing business", when I take a part off of the shelf, that has been sitting there gathering dust for 20 + years and sell it, I have money in hand in lieu of dust. Could be that the difference in my thinking is that I owned my own business for over forty years, I understand the cost of doing business and the concept that "there is no such thing as a free lunch"..

People complain about the fees - but where are you going to get world wide advertising for the amount they charge you.
