I'd just completed date coding (acid etching) ten pieces of glass for a 1940 Ford project I am working on. The entire process took less than one hour.
Each and every "bug" appears perfect. I am very pleased and would like to suggest that anyone thinking of doing this, need not be apprehensive. This particular kit was purchased from Mike Driskell of Third generation Automotive. Without question, it was the easiest kit to utilize. You can contact Mike (great guy) at 615-293-9985. Kube,
Can this be done with the glass in place (vertical surface) or is it done with the glass flat? Thanks John |

Mike,
Thanks for the mention. The etching can be done with the glass in or out of the car. |

I've heard NOTHING BUT praise about Mike Driskell's products, service and the way he conducts business. His glass bugs sound like a great product. Coming from KUBE, that should mean something positive. DD

Cecil,
The etching chemical has around a one year shelf life if stored properly. The chemicals, and stencils we are selling are different from what Roy was selling but the etching chemical will store work with his stencils. If you need any of the chemicals give me a call 1-844-327-5988 |

Hi Michael, Thanks for your help to us hobbyists!
Just out of curiosity (I also have a kit that is a few years old, like Cecil), can you tell or show us what your kit looks like? Are the stencils different in some way?

The stencils we sell now are a higher resolution than previous methods. The only draw back is that they are a single time use stencil. We went this route for MANY reasons. Since they are a single time use we send out 12 stencils in each kit (unless you have a station wagon or Model A), so that there are extras to practice with.

Mike,
When I get to that point of the restoration on my '41 wagon, I will be replacing the broken passenger door & vent window glasses. All of the other glass in the car, including the windshield(s), is original and much too nice to replace. The glass bugs are all quite faint and I would like for the new ones to match. Is it just a matter of experimenting to see how long to leave the etching solution on the glass? Thanks, Bobby |

Bobby,
You would normally leave the solution for one to two minutes to have a perfect etch. You could leave it on for less time to make it more faint in appearance but would take practice |

Hi Everyone, Some advice here from my experience with another vendors kit.
Mask all areas that you want to protect. Any drop of the etching fluid that goes where it doesn't belong will leave a mark that you can't do much about. I have two drip marks on the passenger side wing that can't be fixed without a new piece of glass. I'm living with it, but wish I could have avoided it.
