If you have a key that fits into the cylinder (it doesn't have to open the lock) insert the key, using a piece of wire insert that into the small hole near the cylinder and depress a small pin at the end of the hole. Turn the key about a quarter turn and pull the key and cylinder out of the lock.

I had a '39 trunk handle that I tried to get open for a fellow Fordbarner. It had a key that would go in the lock but would not turn the cylinder. I was told by several locksmiths who post here, that the cylinder must be in the open position to get to a spring loaded pin that must be pushed in to remove the cylinder. I have a small collection of old Ford keys, and of course none would open the lock. Long story short, I mailed the complete handle to Leon Rowell (I think he goes by the handle "LockDoc" here on Fordbarn) and he promptly opened the lock, removed the cylinder, cut new keys, and mailed the handle to the owner. All of this was done quickly at a very reasonable price.
