Default 1951 Ford F2 want to install rack and pinion

Hello Folks,

I have a 1951 Ford F2 and I want to install a upgrade unit and eliminate the old steering box. I am looking for recommendation on what unit to purchase.
I want to make sure it is a quality USA built unit, good adjustment features. I also want to maintain the original height of truck in the front end.
Want to have disc brakes of course, manual steering and use my original steering wheel and steering shaft.

Thanks Ray

You may get some responses here on the barn, but a better source might be HAMB. This site is more on the traditional side of things and the HAMB tends to be more on the modified side. A popular steering rack is the mustang II unit, but not sure it will work with the stock spindles. Might want to consider a complete mustang II install, that would give you the disk brakes and everything.

If you want rack & pinion steering and disk brakes, do it the right way. Forget about the "Old School" used parts way, buy a new front end assembly from a company like TCI or Fatman. They have assembly's that will attach to your frame without cutting the frame, everything will be new. You can order the assemblies with rotors drilled to fit the bolt pattern of your truck, however, you might want to consider a 5 on 5.5", 1/2 ton Ford, in lieu of the F2 eight bolt.
The up front cost will be a little higher than used parts, but in the end the overall cost will be lower and the modifications will improve the drive-ability and safety of the truck.

As soon as I finish my coupe I'm going to install a Mustang II in my 48 F1. Speedway sells them in their brand or Heidt's. With an Ididit steering column you should be good to go.
