Default fuel filter

'30 Model A. I read awhile ago that a Fram 3039 filter would work in the glass bowl. Mine didn't have a filter except for the brass screen. removing the screen exposes a nipple but its too big for the disc on the filter element. Should I just look for a spring or enlarge the hole in the filter.

Thanks Mitch. Then I'll need a spring to hold the filter in place.

I never used the screen when using the 3039 fuel filter in the Model A glass bowl. How would you get a good seal when you do?

So you put the screen right against the metal casting? I always thought that as stock, the screen went between the glass and the casting. Hmmm...

Looks like reading the instructions trumps assumptions once again. Thanks!

I put the 3039 filter between the bowl and the rubber gasket, then the gasket goes right up against the casting. If I do it the other way around, it leaks.
