Default Fenton super dual intake

I'm building kind of a low buck 8BA for a friend that's building a 40 coupe out of pieces. Engine 4in. crank, .040 bore, EAB cam, EAB heads. He had this Fenton super dual he picked up somewhere. I think it was on some race car. They had plugged the heat riser, you ought to see butcher job on the 2 94's. This is going to be just a street low buck street rod. Kind of wondering what you guys think of this intake. The runners don't run across, each runner runs the length of the intake, Going to try it on this engine. I unplugged the heat risers. HO, each carb has a couple of those aluminum 2 inch risers under the carbs, The carbs won't get any heat even with the risers unplugged. I'm going to try 5.5 power valves and 49 jets. What do you think about this concoction? JWL would be a good man on this question, Thanks Walt

Walt, I'm not JWL but I'd try stock jets and power valves first and the risers. The risers can be good for pulling up torque at lower (street) rpm.
Also ran a cold manifold on the street (Navarro racing dual) once I had started the engine, let run for a few minutes, sometimes frosting the inlet just below the carbs, switched him off, let the manifold heat soak from the engine for a few minutes, it ran like a long dog! Had to do this only on the first start of the day. Pain sometimes, but it worked.
Martin.

I think it would run good and wouldn't be concerned about using it. If using 94 carbs I would only change from stock PV's to 4.5 or 5.5 and use a good, mechanical advance distributor with vacuum canister. The stock main jets will be slightly rich, for maximum power, in most areas of the country but will be close enough to run without any problems.

One thing in your favor, with the heat risers un-plugged the intake floor will get hot helping to vaporize the fuel mixture. Depending on the CR, you can take advantage of 6-8 degs of vacume advance and get great fuel mileage as well.
Keep the 2" risers they work well.

Hi Walt; Are those risers drilled for each barrel or just one large opening? I hope to see you next month, Craig.

You guys have so much knowledge about flatheads it's amazing... and the best thing about it is you're all willing to share it with this "kid" of 60. Perhaps they should call this place the Flathead Barn.

Here's a pic of the pieced together '40 coupe... ..so far. It's pieced together with a rotted out coupe, a rusted sedan with a broken frame but complete with all the small stuff... a frame made up of the perimeter rails from a another 40 and the x-member from the coupe, with axles and dash from the sedan and was able to save 3 feet of original floor from both cars. One step at a time, a long time, but every '40 deserves a chance!!

Walt is doing a great job on my flathead, it's damn pretty too! And I do learn something every time I'm there.

Pat, I wouldn't know where start doing the things you do with those pieces. When I was there 2-3 weeks ago there was just the cowl hanging from the rafters, I envy your talent with that old metal. Walt
