Default Reversed ammeter leads

After re- wiring, I know I have the leads reversed, but I am not sure if it is at the terminal box or the gauge. Which side is which? Thank you in advance

They are reversed at the ammeter.

The position of the yellow and yellow/black wire in the terminal box will not impact ammeter reading backwards or not. As long as you connect yellow to yellow on one post and connect yellow/black to yellow/black on the other post, it's all about the wire connections on the back of the ammeter.

That is an easy fix. Just swap the wires on the back of the ammeter.

Not so fast, If the ammeter is not correct then he also has to be sure that the polarity to the coils is correct. No sense in just getting the meter to read right if something else is wrong as well. Let's help him be sure that the whole system is correctly wired not just the meter.

I agree 100% that the coil might also be backwards. In fact I started to write that in my reply and I deleted it because he did not ask about the coil, only the ammeter reading backwards.

In fact, the two are unrelated. That's why I deleted that part of my reply after I wrote it.

Reversed coil wiring is very common. (Think about it, you have a 50-50 chance if you just "hook it up" without researching which way it should go). My town sedan was restored by a very experienced Model A guy before me and I found the coil wired backwards when I went through the car. (But the ammeter read the correct direction!)

I have the positive post of the coil towards the passenger side of the car and hooked to the red wire from the switch. Is this correct?

Yes. Then, the black wire from the terminal box goes on the "-" post of the coil. That should be on driver's side.

If the car ground is pos then the pos on the coil goes to the points. If the cars ground is neg the neg goes to the points.

From the article in post 6,

"The polarity of the coil should match that of the battery by connecting it so (+) goes to (+) and (-) connects to (-)."
