Cars with 6 volt electric fuel pump

Do you pump your peddle when starting
Do you hold peddle to floor
Or do nothing and let electric fuel pump do the work

I don't think the fuel pump voltage has anything to do with starting the car. My Airtex pump slows down noticeably when the carb is full. When starting the engine after setting a few days I wait for the pump to slow down, indicating the carb is full, then pump the gas a couple of times and start the engine. When the engine is warm or within a few hours of the last startup, I just turn the key.

You have to realize that an electric fuel pump serves no other function than to fill the fuel bowl on the carburetor, to the point that the float is able to shut-off any additional fuel flow. It's job is NOT to control fuel introduction into the engine....the carburetor does that. It's function is akin to a properly-functioning mechanical fuel pump.

That being said, every engine seems to have it's own personality when starting. Surely, by now you've found the little starting ritual that your engine likes. Shouldn't be any need to change from that procedure. DD

I turn the electric pump on until it fills the carburetor bowl as stated. Then I give a few squirts of gas by pumping the gas pedal about 3 times. Operate your choke accordingly and it will fire right up.

I use the same method as Seth if I have not started the pickup for at least a week. If less than a week I just start it and it fires right up with a little choke.
