After having installed a new timing gear, I have a new respect for those of you who have installed roadside. You are a better mechanic than I.

Bill, your eyes are excellent. There is one spoke broken. It will be replaced. If you look at my albums, it is on the anna mobile. This vehicle is a toy, that don't get driven on the highway.

Besides the front pulley, it looks as though the crank gear is in pretty rough shape. Maybe its just the picture though.

The first picture makes it look like the cam gear needs to be moved one tooth clockwise. You can put the car in third gear and roll it back a few inches to get the timing marks closer. Hopefully it's just the camera angle and they are lined up like this picture. I agree that the cam gear does look rough. Maybe use a small wire brush to clean it and take another picture, and we could see the surface finish better.

Tom, thanks for the reply. I used this picture, that you had posted. The dimple is aligned with the right side of the key. Now the oil pan comes off for a good cleaning. With the timing pin in the dimple the #1 cylinder is TDC. The rotor is aligned properly. I think it is OK.

Removed the oil pan today. Cleaned up well. There is a pin hole in the bottom of the tray. Would like you experts opinion of a farmer fix. Would a small machine screw with flat washers on both sides with JB Weld in the hole be a reasonable fix? I do realize that a good weld would be better. Looks on this vehicle is not important. If it was graded, it would be on the minus side of the scale. IT IS A FUN TOY.

WHOA....seat belts please ![]() Looks like fun, for sure !! Well,if it were me, I'd put a spot of braze in the hole. Quick and easy and permanent ! Now, about that tape over the headlight lens...??? |

It does have a seatbelt for the driver. Will have for other passengers as well. What looks like tape on the headlights is actually a blue plastic cover. It will never be driven in traffic or at night.

Solder, silver solder, or brazing would all be good permanent fixes for the pin hole.
I wouldn't use hardware that might come loose or leak. The rod scoop might hit the hardware. |

I should have said the hole is in the pan. One of these days I will get the terminology correct. However the advise given will be followed. I will take it to be properly fixed.

Tom W. thanks for your post showing the location of the timing gear. Got everything back together. Got into the seat and crossed my fingers. Hit the starter, engine turned about 2 revolutions. Started up and sounds good, will sound better after I install a new exhaust gasket.
