Default Model A motor serial number unexplained

Whats up with this motor number ? commercial use ??

Re-stamp. The pad was originally rough as cast. This one has been ground flat and a different number stamped on it.

To expand of what MikeK said, when the block was originally cast, nothing was done to the pad. That is, the texture of the pad was exactly the same as the rest of the block.

If the background of the pad does not look like the rest of the block, it has been restamped no matter what the number is or looks like.

I'm wondering why the water inlet has a stud and nut instead of a bolt and lock washer for the generator wire clip?

Probably to match a new engine to the number already registered to that car, and did not know or care about including the letter A and stars.
