Default side mount issue

So is the side mount tire (4.50/21) designed to make it difficult for passangers to climb in my 28 tudor. How do you keep the tire from scuffing the door paint? Sorry, not trying to sound whiny, I must be over thinking this Model A hobby.

You must be missing the door check strap. That limits the door's swing and protects it against the spare tire in the fender. Cut to length and use the footman loops to secure it to the door and the door's pillar.

The rubber door check strap can be bought from many suppliers in various lengths. The short one is the one you need. Bratton's part number 32780.

Logic tells me if the door is not opening up enough because of spare tire interference a door strap would be holding it closed even more. I gotta be over thinking it!

Your logic is correct. The strap that keeps the door from bumping the tire will make the door entrance opening a little smaller. Without the strap, the door entrance size will continue to increase in width as the dent in the door caused by the tire bumping it grows deeper. Definitely use the proper door strap to prevent a big dent in the door.

I like the LOOKS of fender-mounted spare tires. However, as you have discovered, there are several draw-backs to having the spare mounted in the front fender. Another draw-back is the difficulty in reaching (and servicing, maintaining) the engine compartment. Also, for some, getting to the gas tank filler is a pain. Other drivers I am sure may have some other objections to having a side-mounted spare.

As I said, I like the LOOKS of the side-mounted spare, and have them on all my cars. BUT, I have accepted their short-comings* and put up with their hassle factor.

*Like you, one of the short-comings for me and my wife (86) IS the added difficulty of getting into and out of, both our '31 Dlx Coupe, and our '28 Phaeton.
