One of earlier posts identified that I had a "car" hood on my 40 panel that I recently acquired, but I am curious about how it's all going to fit together.
1.) Using the photos below, is it possible to tell where the HOOD and FENDERS are from ? Standard Car or Deluxe ? 2.) How much difference is there between the hood on a standard and a deluxe ? 3.) What kind of Grille should I be looking for that would require the least amount of fabrication/modification ? (Standard Car or Deluxe) ? 4.) How much difference is there between the car and truck HOOD HINGES in 1940 ? I'm curious what kind of hinges I need for this setup (Car hood bolting to the Panel). Thanks for any feedback Mike |

I think that the '40 1/2 ton Panel Delivery used the same front clip as the '40 1/2 ton pickup and Sedan Delivery. In the photos it looks like that's what's on the truck.

The hood will fit a 39 deluxe or 40 Standard car. It will not fit your Panel without major surgery and even then, the bead down the side will be wrong. You need a hood off a 40 or 40 PU. The fenders should work on your Panel. There is a slight difference in the cowl mounting area between 40 passenger cars and PU's, but many have made them work. The key for you is to get the correct hood. For a grille, you should be able to use a 40 Standard car grille.

Bob Drake has a detailed drawing on the difference on a Pickup/panel front fender to body configuration. There is also a different small bracket that goes from the cowel to the fender, also you can see that the hoods on Pickups do not use a SS molding but have a stamped raised portion along the belt line. There is also a difference on the hood latch mechanism and also I believe the interior brace where the locking mechanism locks the hood down MAY be different also
