Shocks can turn out to be metal for the junk yard.
You need to look for off-center, wear, frozen and more.
I used to build shocks and from that experience found that maybe one in ten could he built to hold even moderate pressure
Get with john holland and just buy a set.
Plus even good shocks are hard to build.
I wouldn't bother to bid on them but if you must $5-10 each IMHO

occasionally Robert Paul has some he will sell for no core exchange. Call him and see.

I would only buy shock cores after personally inspecting them or from a source I trusted, not from an unknown source on ebay. they should move, not be frozen, if they wobble off center they are probably bad. If you open the fill plug and there is oil and they move, thats a good sign. If you open the fill plug and rust falls out, forget about them. I think I heard the odds of an unknown core being rebuildable today are about 10%. not too good is it?

I agree with Bill and Pat. Ebay is a good place to unload junk shocks, so I would only buy shocks in person after holding and feeling them.

Not a bad idea to check a seller's history, like if 100% positive.

Agree with all above comments ...... it is a gamble ..... so maybe only bid for amounts you can afford to lose so you will not be unhappy.

But also remember, very wealthy people are usually those winners who were bold enough to take a few chances. ..... win some & loose few.

I have bought over 60 shock cores locally for $10 each on average. Started disassembling them last week. Hoping to be able to rebuild enough for 2 sets with the correct covers for the delivery and Dad's coupe. Will discard the parts worn beyond use and sell matching sets of covers and any usable parts when I am done. With ebay prices I have seen lately I might break even. Rod

$142 With 8 hours to go seems like a lot of money for Junk !!
That would go a long way towords a rebuilt set from Robert Paul .

I gave a box full of them to a friend a few weeks ago for free,to see if he could rebuild some for his 29 pickup He thinks only one out the box can be saved!!!
