Default Certified Ford Model A Parts

Given that many repo parts are not the best quality I was thinking (out of the box) that that those who know model A's say MAFCA etc. would test and give a certification that the part meets some standard (To be determined part by part).

You are already on the best spot to get input from the hundreds of testers, right here on the Barn.

Way too many parts and suppliers for MAFCA to provide this service.

I can tell you now that this will be a mess before it gets started. Many will be complaint the "Purists" will be too critical, ...and there will always be the unversed who say "...it worked well for me!". Even when you look at Amazon Reviews for items they sell, there is always negative feedback mixed in by some clueless consumers who write based on their ignorance.

Then there is the next dilemma. Realistically, how do you qualify who is truly knowledgable/experienced enough to give their opinion? With brutal honesty, there are some here that offer their advice on things that I just bite my tongue because what they are stating is totally opposite of what my experiences have been. I'm not saying I am right and they are wrong, ...only stating if I were basing my actions on their advice, I'm not so sure the outcome would be to my satisfaction.

My vote is let others do their due diligence as far as what is correct and what is acceptable for them on their own project.

There are many parts that are repop that fit and are nearly perfect,
Windshield slide knobs, need chrome taken off and the nickeled
Tire gauge face plate
Engine timing pin
Just remember it has come a long way since they first started

If an organization is set up to do testing there will be significant costs involved and you know who will pay those costs ! The consumer and already many feel the costs are exorbidant. Let the marketplace be the judge as I see it and stay inside the box.

I don't think that MARC or MAFCA would ever touch that with a ten foot pole! And, when you think about it we have some great suppliers out there... and I won't name them as it wouldn't be fair but they get parts made in short runs and even though every part may not be the best it is sometime better than nothing. I think that they strive to get them as good as possible. Does every one turn out great, no... but they way better now than 20 years ago. If they aren't good the supplies won't be selling much.. so I think it behoves them to ensure that they are as good as they can possible be. Look at Brattons new headlight reflectors, snyders exhaust manifolds, etc.

It is also their produced/supplied part and liability and R&D behind it. I for one am grateful for what we have.

Don't we already have a magazine whose purpose is evaluate reproduction items to compare them to original items/prints and report back to their subscribers what is accurate, what isn't, and differences?

I would pay attention to where you are purchasing the safety related parts, those that if they fail when you are driving that could prevent you from stopping or run you into a tree. When I am working on my car I try to remember to think about what happens if this part fails or if my work is not satisfactory and pay attention to what I am doing. I can be the kind of mechanic that forgets to reinstall the oil crankcase plug after an oil change! A part that comes to mind is one that is a weld repair such as the replacement balls on steering parts. I always purchase these parts from reliable parts suppliers and not just on price. Many of the other parts that we purchase are what I call "beauty" parts that only satisfy our own personal tastes or the judges. Ed

Some parts may or may not be the "best" or certified part for a Model A. But some parts may work for owner A while the same part may not work for owner B. The situation is that some owners use their Model A 's differently than other owners. For example owner A may drive many long tours, across country, etc.. While owner B only takes his A to a parade once or twice a year. Thus some parts may work for one owner and not the other. So I feel each member of this forum should have the ability to state how a part works for them as long as they qualify how they use their A and that part. We should be able to express our satisfaction or not even though we are not "experts" in this field. Sorry, hope this is not to much logic to understand!

Brent,
Yes I guess we do. I haven't gotten in in quite some time and should revisit that. I do wish the quality and attention to detail were better on some items... I was just addressing the fact that I would bet the national groups/clubs wouldn't touch it.
