Default 47 v 33 rear width?

Some one wants to sell me a 47 rear for my 33 Ford. They are both banjos but what is the difference in width?
Thank you,
Guy

Looks like 1-3/8" each side, if you subtract the numbers. Don't know if from drum to drum would be that, though.

One bear that you'd have to face is the spring hangers on the rear. The '42 to '48 rears used a rear spring that had the eyes directly below the hangers on the rear so the shackles were vertical, not at the 45º angle that you see on earlier rears. Body sway on those later cars was controlled by a sway bar. If you can't fit a sway bar in your car, you'll have to punt. I've been looking for a '41 spring for a '32 I've been working on (and off) for a few years now. That should give the traditional 45º shackle arrangement.

Don't forget also that the stock '33 crossmember uses that goofy, curved leaf spring. DD

I would think it would be too wide.

I guess I would look for '37-'40 rear, don't think there is any real shortage of them; yet.

You would need to grind a straight '37-'40 spring to fit your crossmember, easier than redoing the spring mounts.

If you are looking at the '47 because of the ratio, buy it and switch the center section into a '37-'40.

Nobody mentioned the length of the torque tube being different.
