Default Are my directionals correct for a 1941 ford

If my directionals are for 12 volt the wires won't be sized correct, so how can I tell if the wire size is correct? I understand I need 16 or 18 gauge wire? My directionals won't work with lights on and I think wire size might be the problem

Is your car 6v? If so, the 6v wire size is larger than 12v. However, the wiring size should not keep it from working, the indication of undersized wiring should be overheating. The wire would feel warm.

If you're using stock '41 parking lights they are for park only(single element bulb). For turn signals you have to change them to dual element bulbs, park and turn. problem is that the single element bulb will have different pins on the base so you'll have to change out the bulb socket to match the dual element bulbs. I assume with the lights on the flasher can't flash the bulb because the parking light circuit keeps them on steady. If you change them out I'd connect turn signal to the brightest element of the two

There is a goodchance you have a ground issue ----the light is using the headlight for a ground----try atempoary wire from the park/turn socket to battery ground---if it works then it proves a ground problem

Sometimes to cure rusty socket ground problems I solder a wire to the bulb and attach it to a good ground

Rusty nuts, bolts, and lockwashers used for mounting fenders and headlight buckets can cause ground problems---powdercoating fender braces, thick paint can also cause ground problems
