My grandfather bought a 1935 Ford two-door car back in 1935. It is the two-door model that has the larger rear side windows with a trunk, not a rumble seat. I think it was called a Tudor Sedan. Unfortunately, the car was involved in a flood in 1972 and has been outdoors ever since. Very, very sad.
My question is, what heads came with the car? What we found were cast iron heads with the water pumps in the front of each head. Did all of them come with aluminum which is what I have read? Could they have been replacement heads? Thanks in advance for your answers. Seems to be a mystery. |

Not sure if all came with ally heads, or some ally And some iron.
Those early ally ones did suffer quite bad with corrosion inside and some times unseen, can go poress (tiny cracks and holes) don't think I spelt right. Had an old friend went through four or five pairs of heads to get a pair of usable ones for his '32 cabriolet. Iron ones would be a bonus here. Could we have some pics of your car please. Martin. |

Your Dad's 35 sedan would have come from the factory with aluminum heads. Only large trucks would have cast iron heads in 1935

Thank you Don. I guess that in the past, the heads may have been in bad condition, cracked, corroded or whatever, and granddad had them replaced. Or maybe the engine was worn out and a truck engine was put back into the car. I was too young to know what was going on. It makes me very sad because the car was just parked and Tropical Storm Agnes came up through Maryland in 1972. The river rose about 35 feet depending on what part of the river you are talking about. Granddad's 35 Ford and 26 Chevrolet were both in their own wooden garage when the storm came through. The garages floated down stream to who knows where. Granddad died in 1962, 10 years before the storm. I always wanted to work with my uncle and restore the cars. I was 24 years old when the storm went through. After that, the cars just turned to rust. I have the heads and they will go on the wall of my garage in Florida. They are cast iron. Sad, but true. I have the original sales receipt and original Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration title for the car (as well as the 1926 Chevrolet). All of that memorabilia will be framed and on the wall of my garage too. Again, thanks for taking the time to read and respond. |
