1928 Roadster Pickup all stock. The Engine and Clutch are new, done 35 years ago. It has been sitting until I bought it a month ago. I drove it about 1 mile through my neighbor hood. It does have the AA 4 speed transmission.
It's not to bad using the 1st gear to start out (Granny Low). It does chatter violently in 2nd gear starting out. I slipped it a little more at first thinking maybe there was surface rust on the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces. I can see very well inside the inspection cover area opened with a flashlight. It looks very clean, no oil or grease. The engine is not leaking any oil under it when it's parked so I think the rear main seal is good. I checked the two side engine/Bell Housing mounts and they are bolted in tight. (No Float a Motor here) I was reading about the two shims that go between the Bell housing and the Block to prevent clutch chatter. Could this be my problem? I looked and I don't see anything around the top Bell Housing bolt area that looks like a shim. I did buy two shims today for it at the Model A Swap Meet. Do these shims go in between the Bell Housing surface and the Block surface locating off of the top two Bell Housing Bolts? |
