Default rods

my engine has 003 thou rod clearance will this cause a blown rod if driven for a while mabe 2000 miles till I rebuild the motor thanks for the help barry

It is easy to take up the rod clearance if there are still any shims left. You can drive it that way gently but stop if you start hearing any knocking. Most often it will lead to a new bearing job. I vote to tighten them.

IMO, the type oil that you are using and can use , may give you some extended use time. For example, if using say straight 30 wt, switch to 20w40 or maybe even straight 40 or 50 weight. I used this in the old days to do same same. Be mindful that you should not lug or full throttle, just enjoyable putting around town ! Let us know how it holds out.

Oh, I missed the Canada location on first read. I see that 'they' use lots of engine electric heaters up that country...COLD. Oil will/may have to be heated some if going to run in cold country.

While I do NOT recommend it plenty of people have filed down the caps when the there are no shims to remove

I was talking to a person that posts here every so often. He tells about how when he was young he would drive the car up on a curb, get under the car and remove what ever cap that was "loose", rub it on the cement, re-install it and away he would go for a few more miles.

cold up hear -35 is not common in northern b.c. but won't be driving the a in winter no heater and don't want to scrape inside the windshield
