Hello, I have 2 questions this evening. 1st, My trans whines some, not real loud. When I watch TV shows with 1928 As I can hear the same whine. Is this pretty much the norm. I have the engine out and thought if it needs something, now is the time, right? The trans shifts great, doesn't pop out of gear. Is it one of those things if not broke, don't fix it?
2nd How can you tell if the frame is bent, not any problems, just wondering what to look for. Thanks Chris ![]() |

While you can easily access it, drain your trans, flush it with kerosene, and carefully inspect the gears. If you find chips or pitting, that will cause a whine. But even if you don't, you may still have a whine. I just put new USA gears in my coupe last year and they whine. Even so, if you find pitting or chips, it would be wise to replace the bad gears.
If you have a frame shop nearby, take the car in and have them put a laser on it. That will tell you if it's straight or not.

open it up and look for issues and at the very least i would change out all the bearings and install the shafts with o-rings. i prefer the one sided sealed type bearings on the main and output...

Check the hood gap from top to bottom, front and rear. It should be even. If the bottom rear has a large gap, you can bet you have the common frame sag at the rear motor mounts.
Not sure what you mean by whine, because Model A trannys whine in first and second due to the straight cut gears (spur gears). The recommended heavy oil quiets most of this whine. |

I like the whine, I consider it part of the "A" experience...

I always have a little chunk of cheese with me to go along with the whine.
