Here is a good socket to use for your GPS and cell phones. I find most GPS and cell phones work fine on 6 volts. This is an ideal socket because it's body is not conductive and can be mounted in any metal bracket. The two rear terminals are easily wired to any convenient power source. Just be sure to wire the center terminal to the +, which is ground on stock Model A's.

It really does work well. Make sure to install an inline fuse in the "-" (negative) lead of appropriate rating for the electronic device. I use a 5amp fuse for the cellphone charger jack. Since most of todays devices seem to use a single cell lithium battery (3.7 volts), the chargers will work just fine on 6 volts DC. If you have a device like a CB radio that expects 12 volts DC, then no way. I found an amateur radio (portable) that works very well on 6 volts DC with an isolated ground, so it works just fine with the positive ground system. Comes in handy. |
