Trailer is just about done for sept trip to MT, should add some fenders and rear corner braces, but have been working on the car also, rebuilt the water pump, 2 distributers, steering column, carburetor and replaced the radiator. Now I have to dive into the timing gear which reared it's ugly head this week. Well I guess its better now then on the road a thousand miles from home

Nice trailer...What great fun you should have in recreating the trip...Did your Grandfather leave a diary of the trip?
Don't forget a copy of the most current MARC and/or MAFCA Membership Roster...Might come in handy on the trip. Pluck |

Thanks every body. Steve no diary from the trip, but I do have the 1929 Rand McNally road atlas they used with gas stops and camping marked in it, so we will follow it as best we can. when he told me the story of the trip I didn't fully appreciate the commitment he made until I started this project. Now I see what a endeavor this was even though he started with a three year old car rather then a 85 year old car, but I'm sure the roads and services weren't the same as now and he had 7 kids between the ages of 4 and 17 on a 2000 mile journey . Bless his soul.

OK, super super trip to do a re-creation; you should consider a diary and hand it down.....
knew an old timer who went from RI to CA in 1927 for the Olympics in a '22 T with his college roommate...some unbelievable stories....and a diary that I got to read only to have his older hare-brained daughter loose later on....

I agree with you though about the diary. I have several books about those early cross country trips, great reads. Very cool trailer old woodsman! |

That is one nice trailer. Where did you get the plans or did you build from scratch?
Mike
