After rebuilding the carb I installed it and it ran very well. it was driven around the block a couple of times. 3 or 4 minutes after parking the car I noticed a bit of gas on and near the screw on the engine side, across from the idle adjust screw. On further observation you could occasionally see a small burst of air come out the small hole on the engine side, directly across from the idle adjust screw and some gas came out with it. It was then discovered that there was gas inside the air intake, enough to get your finger wet but not enough to drop out. Note that it was 93 degrees outside and the sun was directly lighting up the carb. After a few more minutes there was no gas coming out anywhere. The car was then driven around again, with the same results. I wondered if the sun heated up the gas causing pressure and thus the puffs of air and some gas? In other words is this normal or is there a problem for me to find and fix? While talking Tillotsons, I have many more in a bucket, unlike the one discussed above everyone seems to have a problem getting out 1 or both jets. I have sprayed them with penitrent and let set for weeks. I know that this is pot metal and a torch seems like a bad idea but would an oven help? Would freezing help? If either helps should I then try to get the jet out while it is still hot (or cold) of let it recover to room temp? Would several cycles of hot or cold help? Would drilling out the main jet from the "top" work? At least the drill would be turning in the desired direction. Maybe I should just just get CCW drill bits. Thanks very much for your combined wisdom Ben |
