Default throttle travel question

Good morning,
The throttle plate in the carburetor does not open all the way because the linkage hits the bell housing before it is fully open. What is the linkage made of? If it is cast I can't bend it but if not I'll take a chance. Have you guys done this without heating it or must it be bent with heat?
Is this a common issue?
Thanks for your help,
Al

I asume your talking about bending the control arm at the end of the cotrol rod....(left hand illustation p 1-303 in les andrews book) If so ... I bent mind without any problems... (no warranty given!)

Hi John,
No not that one.
I want to bend the 3/8 rod under the throttle peddle/disk the foot presses on. It's the rod that goes down toward the bell housing and then bends to the left and goes toward the "V" mechanism for the hand throttle. In essence I want to raise the throttle peddle/disk to increase it's travel before it hits the bell housing.
Shown on page 337 of the Ford Service Bulletins.
Thanks.
Al

It's a bent steel rod and can be rebent without heat with no problem. Just remember that it swings through an arc, so the portion that moves through the hole in the floor should form an arc.

Hey Al,
Agreed, that you can bend the arms on throttle mechanism fairly easily , as they seem to be 'soft' iron/steel. I've bent arms on both ends, just use reason go slow when bending.

Hi again,
OK - it's in and I took a shakedown cruise.
I was able to bend the throttle section and the long arm near the carb.
When it came to putting the floor board in I found out what Tom cautioned me on.
Before I was through I called Henry a few names but it's ok now.
Thanks again to all.
