John , Me too, done most other body styles but the upper section & rear wooden roof header is the problem, wood fits good ,its just this z shaped reinforcing bar which pos original ones never had is the problem , also how the top will seal to cab back , I know the material is tacked to wood header at the back & covered with hydem but see a posible leak problem there, once i see a pic or in person will understand , Derek

As I saw it, the roof material is cut short of where metal starts and just the hidem covers the nails/staple, so I drip checked the seam between the roof wood and the metal, so if/when water gets under, it cannot go down inside.

yes we are having that problem too, a gab between the z strip and the rear header panel, we are going to sand and make it fit. ALso my doors don't line up with the body lines, the cowl has to be angled forward and the rear has to follow, so I have to bolt the cab to the frame and line it all up

I have removed original wood and found that Ford used a sealer between the wood and metal (front, sides, and rear). I used a thick roofing type tar to seal between wood and metal. Tight fitting wood will not seal out water. There was a welt attached to the wood as the first step in installing a roof. This is important to get a clean look. And it covers the nails on the side quarter panel at the top.

In your second pic, from my searches, I think at eye level, from side on, you can just see the bottom of the nail heads and a slight indentation where it was hammered in .
To pull the welt too far down to cover nails completely would look odd to the line over the doors forward . |

Neil thanks , i now see which way the z strip .(metal top header goes) interesting top material ?or why the strip covering the rear bow ? I have been using floor board welt in a number of places ie leading edge to firewall also lower cowl to firewall , where its metal to metal , I had no wood just a bare metal so nothing to go by .
John is also sending some pictures , Thanks Guys |
