Nice plate. Thats what i love about these old model As , all the history they have been through. Sitting in one is almost like a time machine, you have a living link to the past.

In 2002 when I was trying to make a go of selling antique car parts for a living, my qwest for inventory brought me to the door of an elderly gentleman. After we had been talking for awhile we got on the subject of airplanes. I have my A&P certificate and he had flown PBJ's in the Atlantinc during WWII. We talked for several hours about some of his experiences. Later that day it dawned on me it was June 6th, as I really did not have a lot of time to worry about what day it was. I felt privilidged to spend so much time with him. About a month later I read in the paper he had passed away. Now June 6th always reminds me of that day although he was a long ways from Normandy on that day. He hepled pave the way to the day. Rod

I would be remiss if I did not say thank you to one of our own here who's unit went ashore on D Day. He tells a sobering tale that is filled with terror and sacrifice. He wouldn't want my mention but deserves a million thanks.

![]() ![]() Thought id post this again. WW2 war necessary bond. Found 2 others like it with my grandparents picture albums for my 29 AA truck. this is the stuff that ties my 2 intrests together: ww2 guns/stuff and model A's. Could any of you imagine what life would be like if we had to start rationing tires and fuel and millage today?

They had a great day for the 70th anniversary yesterday .We watched it on UK TV for a couple hours . It was great to hear the Vet'sfrom around the world tell their stories of the day most of them in their 80's or 90's now . The oldest one was 102 .But they all still remember the Horrors of the Fight for our Freedom .
One Vet lives in a Nursing home in Britain , he snuck out with his Medals without telling anyone , got on a bus and then a Ferry and made it to Normandie. Back home the police were looking for him as a missing Person !!! He called them from France to say he was OK. John Cochran |

A couple years back I visited the Utah and Omaha Beaches and the Normandy American Cemetery. That was one of the most moving experiences in my life.
When at the cemetery a choir from Georgia was singing. When they sang "America" as I walked through the field of white crosses, I cried. One thing that struck me was the friendliness and thankfulness of the French people who I came into contact with. One man said something to the effect that Americans didn't fight for the individual French people but 'You sent your boys to fight for the idea of freedom. We will always be greatful. We will never forget that.' I'll never forget my visit there. Thanks to all Veterans for your service. Dean Last edited by dean from bozeman; 06-07-2014 at 10:22 AM. |
