Default anti squeak?

I'm in the process of bolting the rear centre panel to the rear quarters on my '28 phaeton, when I took it apart I noticed what looked like hockey tape where the panels meet together, I would like to know what type of products you have used to assemble panels together, does it serve as an anti squeak material? I noticed traces of it where sheet metal meet in other places too. I would like to also use some on the floor pans to keep out fumes. Look forward to your comments, Thanks!

I used friction tape between metal to metal and metal to wood joints. Friction tape is real close to what Ford used originally, plus it isn't too thick. The problem is that friction tape only sticks to itself and even that does not hold all that well. To stick the friction tape to the metal or wood, I used contact cement on both surfaces to be bonded. It work well. I am posting a couple pictures of some of what I did.

not sure about the duct tape, I find once it gets a few yrs old the adhesive begins to deteriorate.

Classiccanuck, everywhere on the model a that metal touched metal, there was anti squeak material: Friction tape, Gilsonite impregnated cotton webbing, rubber pads, wooden blocks...lacquered cloth beading and wood blocks.
What did you do?

Friction tape, hockey tape was used where wood meets metal on the cars I have seen.

So true, and not only the adhesive, but the plastic tape itself breaks down. Friction tape would be much better.

The model A catalogs should list the welts that are offered, Brattons or Snyders are a good place to look. You sure don't want something that would hold moisture between the panels .
