I have a small oil leak so I am installing a new oil pan gasket and rear and front gaskets. I read some ware, maybe Les Andrews text....flip out the inner section of the oil pan and clean the lower section of oil sludge. How do you remove the snap in pan unit? I did not want to damage the pan or the edge of the base pan housing, so I used gunk and flushed it clean with the garden hose. ?????

Put a trash bag on the ground and "drop" the pan on it face down, should pop out.

I slam my pan upside down on the grass and it pops right out. Just make sure it's grass you won't be walking on any time soon.

Of course you'll inspect for holes in the "new" pan and its tray. My dip tray had a number of holes in it from non detergent sludge sitting there for years and years. I replaced both the oil pan and tray, not new just used but in better condition. But great motivators for using detergent oil.

When you go to put it back in, put the pan on the cardboard. Start the little grabbers in on one side. Place you foot on the tray and with the flick of an ankle it will pop right in. Tom Endy |
