Default Transferring Parts Ownership 1930 Model A

OK, really odd question here. I've been fortunate enough to have a dad who started on a 1930 Model A back in the 70s. As life would have it, well, life happened. The thing is, he lost interest in it and has said he would give me what he has. The car is not anywhere near complete, has never been titled, and has no vin number. This is one of those cars that is being built piece by piece. He has the receipts for the chassis, the engine, and the body. How would we go about getting those transferred over to me without getting it titled as of yet? Would it be as simple as going down to a notary with a "bill of sale" stating the intention of having those parts change ownership? This is in the state of Texas. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, this is the second post on this I've done. Put it over in questions & suggestions and then realized it was site questions and suggestions.
