Default Valve guide removal

How is the best,"easiest" way to get valve guides out without the removal tool. Can I make a tool? Thanks in advance.

A bent screwdriver but don't expect to use them again and there is a high risk of damaging something. Get the right tool.

The tool Mitch shows is the ONLY good way to do the job. Be sure to use a punch placed exactly in the center of the valve, so you don't bend the stem.

There are also some factory made tools that curve around the valve head, but they often have too much spring to get the really tight valve guides out.

Just buy the tool. You'll need it more often than you think. You can mouse around with screwdrivers and punches and such, but jeez. $20? With the right tool you minimize the chance of doing more serious damage to the guides and block. Do it right, and do it once.

I was able to remove the retainer and spring and push the valve up as far as the mushroom allowed and use a large screw driver to tap them down into the chamber below.

I have the tool shown by Mitch in Post #3. Made getting mine out very easy.

Isn't owning a Model A just an excuse to buy more tools? I always thought it was!

This works and how I currently do it. If one is UBER careful one won't damage the nose of the guide where it comes into the passage. It helps to know the orientation of the "split" and catch the nose at 90 degrees to the split.

Still, the Tim Allen excuse rules.

I agree on both accounts above (Books too) but for some people they would rather risk damage than "waste" 20 bucks...

I have a tool similar to the one above made by GEM I think - found it at a yard sale for $0.25 and I also have a bent rod style made by Walden somewhere that came to me the same way - if I can find both I'll post pictures. Helps to know what you are looking for.
