Default 32 ford motor

Ok need the experts here, I've got this motor that I bought that came out of a 32 sedan. Some items are true 32. But how can you tell if its all original 32. And what would be the purpose of that tube coming up from the passenger side manifold and stops before the alternator? sorry cant post more pics for some reason im having problems. Thanks for looking. G-man

The best test is to look at the water petcocks in the front of the block. 1932 was the only year that the petcocks pointed straight down. Beginning in 1933 the came out at an angle.

The water pumps are later (1936?). The '32 pumps had a longer neck and no provision for a temperature sending unit since the standard instruments diid not include a temperature gauge. I have a set for sale and you can see a picture of the correct pumps in the ad, https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ens#post819865

The tube you are asking about looks like a hot air hearer. Does the rest of the tube assembly wrap around the manifold and then exit into the passenger compartment?

Here's a photo of the bottom of a '32 V-8 block showing the location of the holes for the drain cocks that Charlie is referring to.

The other photo shows the front of another '32 block which provides the other "big" difference, namely the lack of any cavities on the face of the block between the motor mount brackets and the timing gear cover.

That is not an alternator; that is a generator. Good luck with the engine.

The gen, fan, intake, carb, heads, engine mounts, water inlets, crank pulley, oil filler tube and cap, all look 32. The water pumps, distributer and coil, and fuel pump are later.

Charlie what are those brass things to the side of your 32 original water pumps you have for sale? You stated that 32 pumps didn't have provision for sending units, so what are the brass things for. Thanks-

Only part of generator that's '32 is the front cover. The pulley, back cover, cutout, and generator body all appear to be later versions. The base of the carburetor appears to be a '33.

Didn't the base of carburetor on 33 haves drill out hole, where the 32 was solid? No hole going through it?

Yeah, the 32 hand throttle linkage went to the spoon pedal, not the carb so that is why the carb base is blank on one side.

The brass things are "lubricator fittings" and look just like the picture on page 5-37 of "The 1932 Ford Book" from the early Ford V8 Club.. My instruction manual says "pressure gun lubricant" every 1000 miles. The holes are definitely too small for temperature senders. Later pumps had a boss on the water pump that was drilled and taped for a sensor.

Oh ok Charlie I removed the remaining water hose from the water pump and its London neck with that brass fitting on it. Thanks
