Default A Probably Dumb Question about the exposed rubber hose on the firewall of a 1935.

This is probably a really stupid question. I was looking at photos of a 1935 engine compartment and I noticed a black rubber hose coming out of the top of firewall that is not connected (see close up photo). This car is supposedly a high point, restored car so I am assuming it is supposed to be that way, but what is it and why? Note: I am a Model A guy thinking about buying a V8 so excuse my ignorance.
Thanks in advance. I know I'll get an answer here within minutes....

That should be the cowl vent drain hose.
